The ARCM is accredited by the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care. ARCM manages the animal facilities at Harvard Medical School which are established for the purpose of housing and care of a variety of animal species that are used in the humane conduct of research, which is central to the academic mission of the University.

All animals at Harvard Medical School are obtained solely under the aegis of the Standing Committee on Animals for the purposes of an animal experimentation protocol that has been written and submitted by a particular investigator and approved by that committee.

This site will provide you with information on the rules, regulations and procedures governing the use of animals in research and teaching at the following academic units of Harvard University and affiliated institutions:

This site also provides a variety of information resources to assist you in your research.

If you suspect mistreatment or misuse of research animals, please inform the Director of the ARCM, Dr. Arthur Lage, alage@hms.harvard.edu, 617-432-1289.
