The ARCM
is accredited by the Association for Assessment and
Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care. ARCM manages
the animal facilities at Harvard Medical School which
are established for the purpose of housing and care
of a variety of animal species that are used in the
humane conduct of research, which is central to the
academic mission of the University.
All animals
at Harvard Medical School are obtained solely under
the aegis of the Standing
Committee on Animals for the purposes of an animal
experimentation protocol that has been written and submitted
by a particular investigator and approved by that committee.

and procedures governing the use of animals in research
