The Institutional
Animal Care and Use Committee at Harvard Medical School and
the affiliated institutions and schools is called the Standing
Committee on Animals. All use of animals in teaching and
research is restricted to specific uses and experimental procedures
described in an Animal Experimentation Protocol (AEP)
that is approved by the Faculty Standing Committee on Animals.
All
use of animals at Harvard Medical School must be described
in an application that is submitted to this committee approval
process. Animals may not be purchased or housed at Harvard
without protocol approval from the Standing Committee.

Categories of Pain This information will assist
your completion of your AEP. The AEP submission must contain
information on the classification of pain to which the animals
may be subjected during your research. This link provides
